Your Planet & Pocket

Great for our planet – and for your pocket

It’s estimated that the average person uses 150* single use water bottles every year. Many are recycled, yet sadly too many more end up in our waterways and seas, causing a considerable threat to our marine life.

And it needn’t be the case. One of the smallest things we can do to make a big impact is to top up from the tap using a refillable bottle.

Loads of cafes and restaurants have joined the wave to reduce waste, so the next time you are eating out, ask for Scottish tap water, with pride. Save the extra few quid and treat yourself to dessert?

And check out Scottish Water’s Tap Map for the first tranche of Top up Taps they are installing across the country – 70 are planned for high streets and busy tourist spots over the next year.

It’s hard to say just how much money you might save if you topped up from the tap every time you drank water, so based on the estimate above of 150 bottles per person per year – that’s a fair amount of dosh!
